Meet Agent A

Or as she is more commonly known, Athena. Athena has been an agent for O.S.A.A, or Organization of Secret Agent Animals for 8 years. Her mission is to rid the backyard of Dr. Squirrel and his evil minions. It all started when she was just a pup. She was outside running around when she tried to play with a squirrel she came across. Mr. Squirrel was having none of it! He ran up a tree and when Athena continued trying to play with him, he took an acorn from his winter stash and dropped it right on her little head! Poor Athena has been against all squirrels ever since which…

Week Two and All’s Well

Well we made it to the end of our second week, congrats! I know for me, it was a little bit of a wake up call as far as the amount of work there was. However, I made it without struggling too much so I know I'll be okay as the workload continues to increase. The first order of business this week was to help plot the course. I was assigned to the photography/visual category. I came up with an example I liked and the reasoning behind it:  I feel like this is a great example for the secret agent theme. To me, Severus Snape is the ultimate secret agent.…

Once Upon a Dream

This a choice from the Writing Assignment bank. It was an easy choice for me because while I don't dream that often, when I do dream it is often a recurring one. The one that immediately comes to mind is probably my personal version of a pretty common dream. The whole dream takes place at the high school I went to: I get to school, walk up to my locker, and all of I sudden I realize that I can't remember the combination! I go to the guidance counselor to get the combination for some reason and then I head to my first class. In my mind, I know I…

Daily Creativity

This week, we were introduced to The Daily Create. Here is my very first one! The objective was to come up with a slogan or platform that a dog would have as President. Meet my brother's puppy, Oshiebear, now known as Mr. President. https://twitter.com/k_heflin/status/822659383897296896 My second DC of the week actually taught me something new. Apparently there is a bookmark that will print out a YouTube video. Being the animal lover I am, I chose a funny cat video! https://twitter.com/k_heflin/status/824073829119066115 My third and final DC of Week 2 was definitely fun to come up with. Using a secret agent name generator, we were given our own secret agent identity and…

Let’s Take a Selfie

For this assignment, I chose a visual project. The purpose of the assignment is to take a selfie with your pet. This is right up my alley because I'm a member of the "selfie generation" and my dog is pretty much my favorite person :) We had kind of a rough start because she assumed that since I was holding her, that meant it was time for kisses! https://www.flickr.com/photos/146807987@N08/32391809542/in/dateposted-public/ She settled in and we practiced with a few filter shots: https://www.flickr.com/photos/146807987@N08/31700590784/in/dateposted-public/   https://www.flickr.com/photos/146807987@N08/31732226803/in/dateposted-public/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/146807987@N08/32391807322/in/dateposted-public/ Finally, I felt we were prepared for the finished product. Name That Song!

For this assignment, we had to pick a song, take the lyrics out, and record a short (30 seconds or less) audio clip. The clip needed to be enough that people would be able to guess the song from it. I'll be honest, a big part of why I chose this particular assignment is because it seemed like one of the few in this category that I was capable of doing. Not to give any hints, but I also thought it would be a good assignment to use to tie in the "mission106" theme! The hardest part was trying to pick a song! Once I decided on the theme, it…

Secret Agent 101

I love the secret agent theme of this class. Its such a broad genre when you really think about it and gives us a lot of options to work with. While I love a good international spy thriller like James Bond, my personal interest really lies more along the lines of Maxwell Smart and Agent 99! I prefer more comedy or science fiction themed secret agents (think Men in Black) as opposed to the more well known war-time double agents or government conspiracy and CIA types. As a class, we can really take this in any direction we want. Someone may become a secret agent themselves. The next James Bond,…

“10 Ways to Share Your Creativity and Get Discovered”

While all of his points are important, the one that really calls out to me personally is #10-"Stick Around". I have horrible habit of giving up on something as soon as it gets hard or takes too much effort on my part. "It’s very important not to quit prematurely. The people who get what they’re after are very often the ones who just stick around long enough". This is a very meaningful quote from this article…

Daily Creativity

This week, we were introduced to The Daily Create. Here is my very first one! The objective was to come up with a slogan or platform that a dog would have as President.

Meet Agent A

Month: January 2017

Or as she is more commonly known, Athena. Athena has been an agent for O.S.A.A, or Organization of Secret Agent Animals for 8 years. Her mission is to rid the backyard of Dr. Squirrel and his evil minions.

It all started when she was just a pup. She was outside running around when she tried to play with a squirrel she came across. Mr. Squirrel was having none of it! He ran up a tree and when Athena continued trying to play with him, he took an acorn from his winter stash and dropped it right on her little head! Poor Athena has been against all squirrels ever since which made her the agent of choice when Dr. Squirrel came on the scene.

In her downtime, Athena enjoys playing with her favorite snowball squeaky toy and napping in the sun spot on the bed. Occasionally she enjoys kicking back with a nice bully stick and most days can be found curled up in her human mom’s lap, begging to pet.

Week Two and All’s Well

Month: January 2017

Well we made it to the end of our second week, congrats! I know for me, it was a little bit of a wake up call as far as the amount of work there was. However, I made it without struggling too much so I know I’ll be okay as the workload continues to increase.

The first order of business this week was to help plot the course. I was assigned to the photography/visual category.

I came up with an example I liked and the reasoning behind it:

I feel like this is a great example for the secret agent theme. To me, Severus Snape is the ultimate secret agent. He pretends to be a spy for Voldemort but in reality is a spy for Dumblebore and the good guys. No one involved truly knows what side he is on until the end. It was hard to find a picture that included all three of them. This one is perfect because Snape is the middle of the two, just like in the story!

Then, I had to come up with a visual assignment:http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/who-said-what/

As my example of the assignment, I chose a picture of Jason Bourne, a Jack Reacher quote, and said the quote was from Jack Ryan.

My next task for the week was to personalize my blog. I gave it a name, a tagline, a new theme, and wrote a little about myself. Not too hard right?

This week, we were introduced the The Daily Create and had to do at least 3 of them. The only real problem I came across with this was that the Daily Create had to be completed on the same day it was published. With a schedule like mine, it can be hard to get on Twitter every day AND do the Daily Create but I managed it! I wrote a blog post about all three.

Has everyone checked out the assignment bank already? We had to complete 3 assignments from the assignment bank and each one had to be from a different category. For my assignment, I completed an audio assignment that was rated 3.5 stars. Next, I chose a fun visual assignment. It’s rated at a 3 star difficulty but all I had to do was take a selfie with my favorite person, my dog Athena! Finally, I chose to do a 2.5 star writing assignment. While fully describing a dream may seem easy, its quite hard for someone like me who almost never remembers their dreams!

Overall, this week wasn’t too bad but the amount of work involved really hit home. Also, I’m not a super creative person AT ALL and some of the assignments I saw while going through the assignment bank looked pretty. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see what the future brings!

Once Upon a Dream

Month: January 2017

This a choice from the Writing Assignment bank. It was an easy choice for me because while I don’t dream that often, when I do dream it is often a recurring one. The one that immediately comes to mind is probably my personal version of a pretty common dream.

The whole dream takes place at the high school I went to:

I get to school, walk up to my locker, and all of I sudden I realize that I can’t remember the combination! I go to the guidance counselor to get the combination for some reason and then I head to my first class. In my mind, I know I am supposed to be in my history class but the teacher (who is the correct teacher) starts class, I realize she is actually going over some high level calculus! I start to panic but everyone around me is taking notes and acting like nothing unusual is happening. Anyways, I make it through this class and head to my next one (or at least what I thought was my next class). I get there and notice I don’t recognize the teacher or anyone else in the class. They tell me the entire school has been rearranged! I go to my vice principal  to try to figure things out but her office has moved too. I get completely anxious and overwhelmed and just start crying in a corner. Then I wake up.

Well there it is, a brief glimpse in to my strange subconscious. Most people have some version of the “can’t remember my locker combination” or “can’t remember my class schedule” but mine is particularly odd if you ask me.

This week, we were introduced to The Daily Create. Here is my very first one! The objective was to come up with a slogan or platform that a dog would have as President. Meet my brother’s puppy, Oshiebear, now known as Mr. President.

My second DC of the week actually taught me something new. Apparently there is a bookmark that will print out a YouTube video. Being the animal lover I am, I chose a funny cat video!

My third and final DC of Week 2 was definitely fun to come up with. Using a secret agent name generator, we were given our own secret agent identity and had to make up a calling card for it. I introduce to the world, Agent Lickety Split!

Actually….I guess I’m not so secret anymore am I?

Anyways….Lickety Split, banana split popsicle. Get it?! I know, I know, its cheesy but trust me, at least its not a picture of My Little Pony! (And yes, apparently there is actually a My Little Pony character named Lickety Split lol)

Overall, these Daily Creates were more fun than I thought they would be and weren’t time consuming so I’m looking forward to more of them!

The hardest part was trying to pick a song! Once I decided on the theme, it wasn’t too bad. I chose my song and proceeded to try and find an instrumental version on  YouTube(I’m sure there is a way to simply removes the words from the actual song but I’m just not that tech savvy!).

I ended up pulling the track up on my phone and playing it while I used SoundCloud on my computer to record the clip. I did end up recording a full 30 seconds because once I started it, I realized it might be a hard one to guess if you’ve never seen the movie that made it popular. In the end, I think it came out pretty well.

Here’s the finished product!

Bootcamp Summary

Month: January 2017

This first week of class has given me a lot of firsts! My very own website/blog, which, by the way, was way harder to set up than I thought it would be!

My first ever blog post:

http://krazydoglady.com/uncategorized/media-introductions/

The media introductions post also included my first youtube video and first soundcloud recording. I had no idea something like SoundCloud even existed.

I’ve never done things like that so learning how to was pretty cool. I’m really not much a social media person. I actually only even have a twitter account because a few online classes before this one have required it to communicate.

The part I thought would be hardest was creating the blogs but its actually way easier than I thought. The media types are fairly easy to embed in the post and the words just kind of flow. Hopefully others are able to follow my train of thought!

The thing I’m enjoying most so far is the theme!

http://krazydoglady.com/uncategorized/secret-agent-101/

My brain is already running a mile a minute, plotting a course and thinking of secret agent story ideas for the semester. I’m looking forward to it!

Secret Agent 101

Month: January 2017

I love the secret agent theme of this class. Its such a broad genre when you really think about it and gives us a lot of options to work with. As a class, we can really take this in any direction we want. Someone may become a secret agent themselves. The next James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, or even Agent P (Disney’s Phineas and Ferb) could be among us, their stories just waiting to be told!

“10 Ways to Share Your Creativity and Get Discovered”

Month: January 2017

Austin Kleon’s post was very inspiring to me. I think he makes a lot of good points and while some of his advice seems a little played out to me, its still good advice. While all of his points are important, the one that really calls out to me personally is #10-“Stick Around”. I have horrible habit of giving up on something as soon as it gets hard or takes too much effort on my part. “It’s very important not to quit prematurely. The people who get what they’re after are very often the ones who just stick around long enough”. This is a very meaningful quote from this article for me. It really hits home about needing to keep at something in order to succeed.

As far as how his article applies to this course and what we will be doing, I think its very applicable.  As a class, we can share and bounce ideas off one another. If there is criticism, we can gentle it or pick that person up and help them better themselves with advice of our own. He encourages people to put themselves out there and that is exactly what we are doing in this class.

Hope you like it! https://www.flickr.com/photos/146807987@N08/31732226403/in/dateposted-public/

Bootcamp Summary

This first week of class has given me a lot of firsts! My very own website/blog, which, by the way, was way harder to set up than I thought it would be! My first ever blog post: http://krazydoglady.com/uncategorized/media-introductions/ The media introductions post also included my first youtube video and first soundcloud recording. I had no idea something like SoundCloud even existed. https://soundcloud.com/krystal-heflin/james-bond-intro I've never done things like that so learning how to was pretty cool. I'm really not much a social media person. I actually only even have a twitter account because a few online classes before this one have required it to communicate. The part I thought would be…

Austin Kleon's post was very inspiring to me. I think he makes a lot of good points and while some of his advice seems a little played out to me, its still good advice.
